Fellowship in Spine Surgery
From 2011, the Department has been recognized by the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University to conduct Spine surgery, training fellowships. The course is only available to orthopaedic postgraduates. In Ganga Hospital, one or two candidates are selected per year. The fellows are selected by an interview conducted by the Spine unit of Ganga Hospital every year. The course starts in June- July and ends in the next year. Fellowship Commitments : The one-year fellowship provides adequate exposure to most spinal pathologies and ample opportunities for surgical training. The fellows have clinical and research activities and hands-on surgical training are offered under supervision and guidance. In the theatre, the fellows can observe and perform surgical procedures under the supervision of nearly 2000 surgeries per year. The type of surgeries range from the simple to the most complex and includes both orthopaedic and neurosurgical cases. The rich clinical material also provides adequate opportunities for active research work and international publications. As part of the curriculum, a detailed logbook and a short research project should be submitted at the end of one year. At the end of one year tenure, an exit exam will be conducted to assess the candidate based on which a certificate of completion will be provided.
